What does it include?
The Alcazar of the Christian Monarchs is a solid-wall fortress and palace. Inside of it we can see Cordoba’s architectural evolution. The Alcazar is located where centuries ago used to be the Arabic Alcazar, from which the actual fortress inherited the beauty, the gardens and the fountains.
The origins of Cordoba are lost in time. Its proximity to the river and the natural wealth of the area made the city perfect for the primary prehistoric occupations.
But it wasn’t until the Late Bronze Age (IX and VIII BC) when the first settlement was made.
With the arrival of Phoenicians and Greeks to the Peninsula, the city is considered an important mining and trade spot thanks to Guadalquivir river’s navigability.
This worked well for trade and artistic relations and broadcasting, including this city in the group of the main cities of the moment.
